The Hook Between Oceans

The subjects of most of Yen Yu-Ting’s works are social events and issues reported on TV and online media. Elaborate heavy color painting techniques are employed. Image editing software such as Photoshop is used to remove the background in images and texts taken from the media. Then the parts to be kept are copied and pasted and blown up to emphasize sections with questionable claims. By doing so, events that have been distorted, made spectacular and even scandalized by the media are taken apart and reinterpreted to allow viewers to reassess them.

“The Hook Between Oceans” is a work inspired by the current condition of Taiwan, an island state. In a more relaxing and humorous way, it is a response to the peculiar status of Taiwan in the international society and the mentality of the people.
