Every year, I would always make five cards: one for my mother’s birthday, one for my father’s birthday, then another for Mother’s Day, another for Father’s day and finally, one for Christmas. The process—of a recipient having to read then register the sender’s creativity in order to decipher a heartfelt message—is one that generates great joy. This maneuvering of distance and vicinity allows one to better understand one’s existence.
I’ve always believed that the significance of painting lies in these sorts of human relationships.
