The Thing

Room 2103|Oil on canvas 30x30cm 2016

This is the story of the discovery of a sea monster. It is a marine predator that wanders the boundless depths of the ocean, searching for the smell of its next meal. Sheraken was born after the sea color changed and the temperature rose. It is an omnivorous animal, nourished by natural or non-natural substances alike. Since the ecological disaster began, people saw Sheraken foraging. Now he is no longer a legend.

I was born and lived in places far from the ocean. All my knowledge of it came from books since I was a child. I learned the species of fish, ecological chains, and the path of evolution, all despite my remoteness from it. Humanity is just one of many species on Earth. We may not be the most numerous but we are the most influential. Unfortunately, we are constantly damaging the environment by means of our needs and greed. With over fishing, deforestation, and the various man-made causes of global warming, we continue to cause harm. The Earth may never recover and all the planet's creatures have to share our legacy.
